AG Jeff Sessions road into California on his high horse, barking orders at state officials like he owned the place. The attorney general announced the lawsuit against the state of California over several of its immigration laws. Gov. Jerry Brown already fired back to alert Sessions that he won’t be bullied, and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf just followed in her colleague’s footsteps.
Mayor Schaaf stated from Oakland City Hall, “How dare you vilify members of our community by trying to frighten the American public into thinking all undocumented residents are dangerous criminals. How dare you distort the reality about declining violent crime in a diverse sanctuary city like Oakland, California, to advance your racist agenda.”
She continued, “It was not my intention to get caught up in a national debate, but I do believe that I am speaking for the residents of my city.”
“The agenda of this administration is petty political vindictiveness,” she added.
Sessions attacked Mayor Schaaf after she had alerted Oakland about the impending Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid. He stated, “Here’s my message to Mayor Schaaf: How dare you. How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of our law enforcement officers to promote a radical open borders agenda.”
Sessions continued, “California is using every power it has, and some it doesn’t, to frustrate federal law enforcement. So you can be sure I’m going to use every power I have to stop them.”
