Former FBI director James Comey this Wednesday claimed that an independent Department of Justice and FBI are “essential to our liberty.”
“Where are the voices of all the leaders who know an independent Department of Justice and FBI are essential to our liberty?” Comey, who was controversially fired last year by President Trump, reached out in a tweet.
“‘You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say.’ — Martin Luther.”

Comey’s remarks come in the aftermath of President Trump appearing to demand for the Justice Department to “act” on former Hillary Clinton adviser Huma Abedin and Comey.
“Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols,” Trump tweeted out last Tuesday.
“She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others,” he added.
Trump also launched several attacks against top FBI officials last month. In a fury of tweets, he claimed that FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was compromised by political donations and branded Comey as a leaker.
Trump back in 2016 fired Comey from his job at the FBI.
Comey later stated before the Senate Intelligence Committee that Trump had demanded his loyalty while the two were attending a January dinner at the White House. He also claimed that Trump pressured him during an Oval Office meeting back in February to stop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Trump has denied both of those claims.
Comey during the past few months has been posting quotes that appear to be related to certain news stories of the day.
For instance last weekend, he tweeted out that he hopes 2018 brings “more ethical leadership, focused on the truth and lasting values.”
